In this series, we’ll be exploring the question: “What is the Gospel?” through videos, scripture, theological reflection and (fun and easy) homework.
-
Questions:
1) If you had to give your life story a genre or put it in a specific section of the library, what would it be?
(one word answers only)
2) What is your favorite story and why? (Can be book, movie, TV Show, Video Game, or whatever)
-
Maintain Confidentiality: This means that what is shared in the group, stays in the group.
Be Respectful: It’s okay to disagree, it’s never okay to diss.
Listen Well: This means that we shouldn’t talk over one another, and we are genuinely doing our best to stay engaged in the conversation.
-
Purpose: The purpose of Very Good Soil is not about amassing knowledge so that we can get an A+ from God. Very Good Soil is designed to help you grow.
How are we growing? In Very Good Soil, we are growing by:
Building relationships
Practicing paying attention and theological reflection
Learning the basics of the Gospel
Growing in the ways we engage scripture
Weaving what we’re learning here into our real lives
Question: What was your most formative life experience?
Session Format
Connect: Through sharing and praying.
Reflect: On the homework activities from the previous week: what we felt, what we noticed, and how we saw God at work.
Show the Gospel video and have a short discussion.
Sow what we have learned into the word of God by discussing a passage of scripture related to the Gospel topic.
Grow by presenting the two homework options for the week ahead.

Discussion Questions:
Do you have feelings about the Old Testament and New Testament? What are they?
Have you ever “shared the Gospel” with anyone? If so, what were the main things you highlighted, and if not, why not
Why do you think God reveals himself through a story instead of a set of rules?
